Affordable Childcare Services
Hello readers, hope everyone’s holidays are going great! I wanted to put out one last post before the year ends.
It can sometimes be tough as a mother trying to get back to work or school if you have infants or toddlers at home. Especially if you’re low-income and can’t afford daycare services. So in this post, I will be providing information about how low income mothers can find affordable childcare services.
For mom’s on CalWorks in Los Angeles: If you’re on Calworks and receiving aid, you are eligible to apply for many childcare programs. I want to tell you about one of them… Crystal Stairs, Inc which is the largest childcare provider in South LA. They offer childcare services for low-income families and they can provide the funds for your child to attend daycare. With Crystal Stairs, you have the option to take your child to daycare or to leave your child with a trusted family member or friend and they will provide funds for them to watch your child.
To get connected with this program, you should first find out if you have a Gain Worker. If not, connect with CalWorks and apply for their program. Once you have a Gain Worker, you can then request to be connected with CrystalStairs. Another option is to contact them directly- you can call them at 1-323-299-8998 or fill out an online contact form here.
If you’re not receiving Calworks, there is another option– Download the WIN app!
How? Go to your App Store and type win: what I need, in the search bar. Once you’ve downloaded the app, it is ebay to find a childcare locator and to search for child care providers. On the WIN homepage, select the MORE category. Then Select Childcare Resources and subsidies and WIN will provide you with a list of childcare program services or childcare referral centers that you can use to find affordable childcare services.
One last resource that I want to mention, for those who are attending a community college. Community Colleges sometimes provide childcare services for students with children and may even have a daycare facility on campus. I know the college that I attend, Los Angeles Southwest College, does offer these services for students with children! If you are a student, I recommend speaking with a counselor or asking your welcome center what resources they may have for childcare.
We all want the best daycare we can find for our children and it is not easy! I hope this information can help someone.
Happy holidays and a happy new year to all!
